En Perú, a través del proyecto Restauración de Ecosistemas Altoandinos, los ecosistemas centrales del plan de restauración son: los pastizales, bofedales, bosque de relicto altoandino y en menor proporción matorral altoandinos. Estos se ubican en tres paisajes de la sierra del Perú: Paisaje Ancash, Pasco-Junín, y Nor Yauyos Cochas.
